Pokolbin Pride runs from 10am on Friday until 4pm on Sunday
Pokolbin Pride is about creating community, not just for local LGBTIQ community members but for their friends, family and corporate supporters as well. It’s about celebrating diversity, love and kindness – with great people, wine, food, music, dancing and laughter.
It’s also about solidarity during this difficult time with so many of our community suffering from insecurity, anxiety and depression as their long term relationships and hopes for acceptance and love are put to the test in such a brutal way.
It’s also about telling the world that Australia’s most popular regional wedding venue, the Hunter Valley, is open for business and ready and waiting for a Yes result. In fact many same sex couples already choose to celebrate their partnership and ‘get married’ albeit illegally in the Hunter Valley already. Businesses like Tamburlaine, Drayton’s, Ivanhoe, Peterson’s House, Macquariedale and Nanna Kerr’s Kitchen have put their brands up as in favour of equality, love and kindness and together have donated their time, infrastructure and in-kind gifts to make the Pokolbin Pride festival happen.
Last year, year 1, we had more than 700 people through this year we are expecting more than 1,000 and next year we will be playing a for huge celebration with more than 5,000 guests. Former Queensland Rail now Aurizon is our first corporate partner and has funded a free shuttle service to and from the Hunter Tent Stay in Lower Belford for the whole weekend to allow visitors to get around safely and at no cost. Our community partner ACON will be attending all of the events with a short speech from the Regional CEO at the welcome party on Friday night. ACON is one of the many groups tasked with providing mental health support for the LGBTIQ community.
There are still limited tickets available to all the parties on Friday and Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon. Details and links to accommodation are available at pokolbinpride.com.au
